The ongoing discussion about construction projects and nitrogen emissions prompted Omroep Gelderland to visit the Gorinchem-Waardeburg dike reinforcement project to observe the use of electric equipment in construction.

In the video, Gerard van der Veer and Gerrit Jan van de Pol from GMB discuss the electric 30-ton Hyundai HX260 excavator, which is being used on-site and was developed by Urban Mobility Systems.

On Wednesday, November 5, the Dutch Council of State ruled that the so-called construction exemption is legally untenable. This means that if a construction project causes nitrogen deposition in a vulnerable nature area, a nature permit will once again be required. The ruling will have significant consequences for the entire construction sector, as nitrogen calculations must now be made for each individual project.

The use of electric construction machinery significantly reduces nitrogen emissions on construction sites. It benefits the climate, provides better working conditions for employees, and minimizes disturbances for the surrounding environment. In addition to nitrogen reduction, it also helps lower CO2 emissions and fine particulate matter pollution.
